Universal-Slot Approach

A universal slot provides an interface along the back of the storage body, with connectors mounting the body to the pegboard. It offers space to arrange multiple mounting points, but the hole spacings it can accommodate depend on the positioning features within the slot.

How can a long slot set positions?

A long slot can work in several ways: connectors may be fixed at specified positions, selected among multiple detents, or adjusted continuously and then held in place by the appropriate structure.

These approaches differ in compatibility and user experience. To assess a design, we need to inspect where the connectors can actually be installed and how the body stays in position after mounting.

An existing attempt across board types

Pang Ru Ju’s series uses a common recessed slot with board-specific hooks. The author’s description mentions an elongated recess and preset detents, so the actual range of connector positions needs to be checked against the structure. Read the author’s description

This is an important reference for RONZ’s exploration of replacing connectors while keeping the body. This page does not provide measured hole-spacing coverage or load-capacity conclusions for the series.

Position adjustment and stability during use

The following sets out RONZ’s current design judgments about slot interfaces.

Adjusting mounting positions during assembly can help find a combination that matches the board holes. Whether lateral movement needs to be restricted during use depends on how items are removed and replaced, and the positions of neighboring accessories.

A little movement may not affect access to a storage box. For a holder from which tools are pulled sideways, the same movement may change the handling experience. We should also check whether displacement accumulates or carries the body into an unsafe position.

We will therefore distinguish deliberate adjustment from unintended movement during use. Additional positioning features should be driven by actual problems.

What RONZ will check next

  • Whether all connectors can be installed at the required mounting-point spacing.
  • Whether the body still assembles and detaches normally after the mounting points are adjusted.
  • Whether normal removal and replacement, lifting, or sideways pulling cause wobble, displacement, or disengagement.
  • Whether positioning can remain simple while retaining the required compatibility.

These are directions for validation. The specific slot cross-section and locking method have not yet been decided.
